Cultural
Experiences
Knysna and surrounds has for decades been a
sanctuary to artists, alternative cultures and intellectuals. The area thus offers a large variety of arts and crafts from
international and national paintings to locally produced furniture,
woodcarvings, pottery, leather goods, sculptures and a plethora of other
creative items. Flea markets,
craft stores and fairs abound.
Other
items of interest include:-

The Pink Loerie Carnival held annually in
May each year – five days of frolicking, fun and strutting arranged
by the gay community;

The Knysna Arts Experience organised
annually at the end of September for ten days featuring art
exhibitions, readings, theatre, music, dance and painting expos;

Township tours to Coloured, Black and
Rastafarian communities;

Beautiful old churches in Knysna and
Belvidere;

Museums at the Old Goal and Millwood House;

Visits to the remains of the Millwood
goldmines deep in the indigenous forests;
