Cultural Experiences
Knysna and surrounds has for decades been a sanctuary to artists, alternative cultures and intellectuals.  The area thus offers a large variety of arts and crafts from international and national paintings to locally produced furniture, woodcarvings, pottery, leather goods, sculptures and a plethora of other creative items.  Flea markets, craft stores and fairs abound.

Other items of interest include:-

  • The Pink Loerie Carnival held annually in May each year five days of frolicking, fun and strutting arranged by the gay community;

  • The Knysna Arts Experience organised annually at the end of September for ten days featuring art exhibitions, readings, theatre, music, dance and painting expos;

  • Township tours to Coloured, Black and Rastafarian communities;

  • Beautiful old churches in Knysna and Belvidere;

  • Museums at the Old Goal and Millwood House;

  • Visits to the remains of the Millwood goldmines deep in the indigenous forests;

  • Historical town walks.
